The steam kettle from Coot
The trawler Coot from Aberdeen was purchased for Hafnarfjörður in 1905 and was the first trawler owned by Icelanders. Coot's fishing career ended abruptly when it ran aground on Keilisnes in the Reykjanes Peninsula in 1908.
The Story of Coots it was not long-lived, but nevertheless significant for the Icelandic national economy. Debris from the trawler can still be found at Keilisnes. A boiler and the rudder were moved to Hafnarfjörður where both have stood on the corner of Strandgata and Vesturgata, a short distance from the Folk Museum, as a fitting memorial to the nation's first trawler.
