Charming swimming pool on Strandstígurinn
The Hafnarfjörður Swimming Pool is a renowned social and wellness destination for residents of Hafnarfjörður and visitors of all ages. It has become increasingly common to hold various events in the swimming pool's facilities, on the pool deck, as the venue is unique for entertainment and experiences. Local Hafnarfjörður artist Klara Elíasdóttir held a concert on the pool deck during Advent.
Renowned social and health-promoting venue
The Hafnarfjörður Swimming Pool is the first swimming pool in Hafnarfjörður and was an outdoor pool for 10 years from 1943, until it was covered over to designs by Guðjón Samúelsson, like many well-known buildings in Hafnarfjörður. It was originally a seawater pool, with water pumped from the sea by an electric pump, heated by a coal-fired boiler and purified by filters.
Known for its calm and friendly atmosphere
The pool is a renowned social and wellness hub for residents of Hafnarfjörður and visitors of all ages, ideally located on Herjólfsgata, which runs alongside Strandstígur, the most popular walking trail in Hafnarfjörður. There are hot tubs outside the swimming pool and gendered steam rooms inside, the only ones of their kind in the town. The swimming pool is known for its calm and friendly atmosphere, but it is also famous for being where the front tooth of the great singer Björgvin Halldórsson was knocked out in the late 1960s.
