Author in Residence
Ingi Markússon is the author of January's featured novel, The Shadow Bridge – a debut that has received unanimous praise from critics, and was also awarded the Icelandic Centre for Literature's New Writers' Grant. It is a suspenseful and captivating fantasy tale for both young people and adults, a story of hubris and betrayal, winter's cold and summer's warmth, light and darkness.
The Shadow Bridge is set in a distant future, on an ice-covered Earth. There, all the stars have gone out except for one; without it, the winter darkness would be absolute. When the last star disappears, Dimmbrá and Hnikar become separated and are cast into flight across the polar regions. Not everything is as it seems, and everywhere the darkness looms, abyssal and cold. What happened to the star, how is it connected to the Shadow Bridge – can the blackout be averted?
