Tuesday, 4th April at 12 We welcome you to the next lunchtime concert of the year at Hafnarborg, featuring mezzo-soprano Sigríður Ósk Kristjánsdóttir, accompanied by pianist and artistic director of the concert series, Antónia Hevesi. This time, the concert is entitled „A Weeping Man and All Sorts of Women“, featuring arias from the operas of Gluck, Purcell, Rossini and Bizet.

Sigríður Wish Christjansson's daughter, a mezzo-soprano, has completed her studies in singing and piano teaching at the Reykjavík Music School and holds a master's degree from the Royal College of Music in London. Sigríður regularly sings in operas, oratorios and in recitals of song, both at home and abroad. She has sung over twenty opera roles, including that of Nunna in Love and Other Demons by Peter Eötvös (Glyndebourne Opera), in Jacob Lenz by Wolfgang Rihm (English National Opera), Waltraute in to the Valkyrie (LidalNorth Norwegian Opera), Arcane in Theseus (English Touring Opera), Arbate in Mithridates (Classical Opera Company), Tisbe in Cinderella (Iford Opera), Third Lady in The Magic Flute, Rosina in The Barber from Seville and recently as Flora Bervoiz in The Tragedy (Icelandic Opera). Sigríður has also been a soloist with some of the country's foremost choirs, such as the Motett Choir, the Cathedral Choir, the Choir of Langholt Church, the Reykjavík Opera Choir, the Reykjavík Male Voice Choir and the Fóstbræður.

Sigríður has appeared in concert halls such as the Royal Albert Hall, Kings Place and Cadogan Hall in London, where she sang alongside Emma Kirkby and the concert was broadcast on Classic FM. Sigríður also sang with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra in Our classic the years 2017 and 2018 and in Ninth Symphony Beethoven's in 2021. Sigríður is a member of the baroque band Symphonia Angelica, who have performed, among other places, at the Reykjavík Arts Festival in 2016 and at the Nordic concert Concerto Grosso – Viking Barokk, which took place at the Oslo Concert Hall, the Berwaldhallen in Stockholm and the Musiikkitalo in Helsinki. Sigríður is also a member of Tindr, who first performed in 2022 in concerts for the Icelandic Opera, both at Norðurljós in Harpa and at Hof in Akureyri. Sigríður's singing can be heard on the album Engel Lund's Book of Folksongs (Nimbus Records) and on a newly released album of songs by Jónas Ingimundarson which is called With spring in hand. Sigríður was nominated for the Icelandic Music Awards in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2021.

Antonia Hevesi, a pianist, has been the artistic director of the lunchtime concerts at Hafnarborg since their inception, and they have been a regular feature of the museum's programme since 2003. There, Antonía has been joined by many of the country's leading singers, with the aim of the concerts being to give visitors the opportunity to enjoy live music at their leisure. The lunchtime concerts are usually held on the first Tuesday of each month during the winter season.

The concert starts at 12 noon and will last for about half an hour. The venue opens at 11:30 am and the concert is open to all, subject to capacity. Admission is free.
