In my view: Shadow Theatre – a multilingual storytelling workshop
On Sunday 11 October from 1 pm to 3 pm, Hafnarborg and GETA are hosting a multilingual storytelling workshop where participants will create characters and tell…
Friday, 14th April at 6 p.m. will ASA Trio appear on the Afternoon Tones at Hafnarborg with the saxophonist Joel Pálsson but together they will play material from an album that they released last year. The album is called Another Time and was recorded in early 2020 when everything in society was at a standstill, and it is worth mentioning that the album recently won the Icelandic Music Awards for Jazz Album of the Year 2022. The album consists of pieces by all four band members, written especially for this project. The influences are wide-ranging, from indie-tinged, lyrical opuses, and aggressive modal works to funky, bluesy, boogaloo-infused tunes, to mainstream jazz compositions with a Mediterranean flavour, and everything in between.
ASA Trio has been active since 2005, and the group has released two albums under its own name, as well as several live releases which are available digitally on the trio's website. The trio consists of Andrés Þór, guitarist, Agnar Már Magnússon, organist and keyboard player, and Scott McLemore, drummer. Assisting them is the saxophonist Joel Pálsson which is well known to music enthusiasts. Jóel has been a prominent figure in the Icelandic music scene for many years and has released numerous albums that have been well received and won numerous accolades.
The concert lasts for about an hour and is free of charge.
The concert series is sponsored by the City of Hafnarfjörður, the Rannís Music Fund and the FÍH Cultural Fund.
