Sweeping streets, pavements and footpaths In Hafnarfjörður, the street sweeping began on Monday. Initially, the focus is on sweeping the main routes. The first neighbourhood will be swept on 3 April and the last on 2 May. The town is divided into 14 neighbourhoods. A sign will be put up at each neighbourhood the day before sweeping takes place, and residents in the area will also be sent a text message to inform them that their neighbourhood is due to be swept.

Let's take an active part and ensure a good sweep!

We ask residents to take an active part so that the results are as good as possible. It is essential that the streets are clear of cars on the day of sweeping so that the kerb edges can be swept. Residents and business staff can take the opportunity to sweep around their own premises. This will make the whole area look much tidier.

Zonal redistribution of suction

Work is carried out according to a specific work plan which includes sweeping all neighbourhoods between 3 April and 2 May. As soon as the neighbourhood sweeping is complete, high-pressure washing, sweeping of main roads and major collector roads, along with roundabouts, will commence. The schedule is shown in the image below, and residents can use this to plan for the sweeping of their properties and local area. The work plan is subject to change, primarily due to weather (frost) and delays with the contractor carrying out the sweeping.
