Seltún in Krýsuvík closed in May due to construction work
Seltún in Krýsuvík will be closed from 2 May to 6 June for maintenance work. The wooden walkway, the only safe access to the mud pools in the area, is being replaced, and the site will therefore be completely closed during the works.

A very active volcanic crater and borehole area
This is a very active area of craters and boreholes, which in itself means that footpaths must be constantly repaired due to heavy wear. Gravel paths will also be repaired as conditions permit. The project is being carried out with a grant from the Visitor Site Infrastructure Fund for the continued development of the area, which is considered essential for safety and nature conservation reasons.
One of the country's most beautiful natural gems
Krysuvík is one of Iceland's most beautiful natural gems, and the diverse colours of nature in the Seltún geothermal area captivate many. The maintenance of paths and the development of walking trails at this popular tourist site is a priority for the City of Hafnarfjörður in the newly published destination plan for the capital region, and there are plans for further development of facilities in the area in the coming years.
All tourists are thanked for their patience during the works and are directed to numerous other Interesting places in Hafnarfjörður or Destinations in Reykjanes at visitreykjanes.is
