Gardens and plots that stood out for their tidiness this year

On Thursday, 7th September, awards were presented for the gardens and grounds that were considered to stand out for their tidiness this year. Many suggestions were received from residents, and a member of staff from the Environment and Planning Department has been out and about all summer to carefully review all the nominations received, as well as to make their own recommendations for awards. The awards ceremony took place at the stage in the newly refurbished and colourful Hellisgerði, and Tinna Bessadóttir of Álfakaffi provided beautiful and delicious refreshments for the guests.

Contracting companies receive accreditation for the first time

Hafnarfjörður has many beautiful gardens and tidy plots, and it is pleasing to see how many people are industrious and enthusiastic about making their surroundings beautiful. Hopefully, the awards presented in Hellisgerði yesterday will encourage other residents to do likewise. to take care of their gardens and plots and thus do their bit to make our town even more beautiful. This year, no single garden was chosen as more beautiful than another, but they all have one thing in common: they are tidy and a great adornment. For the first time, a contracting company received an award for the high-quality and beautiful finishing of two areas. Dvergsreitnum and Stekkjarbergi. Great care has been taken to professionally lay out the communal garden areas, with paved walkways featuring snow-melt systems, flowerbeds and lighting. It is so important that new builds are landscaped to blend in with their surroundings, and that all garden areas are attractive and well-designed. It is not always the case that developers take pride in the finishing of green spaces, but in these two instances, GG Verk has done an excellent job and are therefore well deserving of these awards.

Below is a list of the award-winning gardens and plots that received awards this year, along with a review from the Environment and Planning Department of Hafnarfjörður Municipality.

The Dwarf's Plot, Lækjargata 2

A significant transformation has been made to the city centre space, which has been extremely successful. What is particularly noteworthy is that the square is in keeping with its surroundings; this cluster of buildings is at the right scale, yet has a contemporary feel. The garden space plays a major role for the owners of the houses; there are pedestrian links, beautiful planting, and the whole appearance is refined and attractive. There is, somehow, a good atmosphere in this place.

9 Stekkjarberg

Here, Stekkjarberg has also been exceptionally successfully transformed into a modern and beautiful plot on the edge of the protected Stekkjarhraun.  This place is unique in the town, offering shelter and access to a unique natural gem, with connections to the countryside and the town centre. The garden areas have a very ambitious finish, with paved walkways, lighting, and beautiful planting. As these two examples prove, it is so important to make garden spaces attractive and beautiful. They draw people in, enhance enjoyment and outdoor activities, and greatly improve the quality of the areas. Spending time in a beautiful garden space has a positive effect in every way.

Elf Age 16

This garden has attracted a great deal of attention from local residents for a long time. We have been following it for some time, but the enthusiasm for the project has been so great that there has always been something in the pipeline preventing it from being recognised – until now. What a selection of plants, especially perennials, and the range is particularly diverse. There are beautiful paved areas, a greenhouse, works of art, curios and all sorts of finery. It is clear that there is a great passion for gardening here.  We love how the lava field and the landscape have been allowed to be part of the garden's design. In our opinion, this garden is very beautiful and a great asset to the area.

Fjóluhlíð 12

It was particularly pleasant to drive up Fjóluhlíð on a bright summer's day and see this cheerful garden, which gave a warm welcome to visitors on the street. Such lushness and variety of plant life, such great care lavished on every single detail. All the beds are beautifully edged, and the grass shaped into pleasing, soft forms.  What particularly caught my eye was that every single plant had been labelled with a small tag. It was a very pleasant sight. This isn't the first time the owners of Fjólugranda 12 have done this, as the garden is very well maintained year after year.

Spóaás 24

This garden has been beautiful for years; it's stylish, modern and family-friendly. The decking has been allowed to age beautifully, and there is a wide selection of beautiful plants.  I've honestly never seen such beautiful grass before. The owners have brought in their own garden furniture, which is a real statement of ambition, and there's also a brilliant outdoor kitchen. The view just makes this garden absolutely amazing.

Viðiberg 7

This isn't a very busy street and I had to use ja.is to find it. But the approach to this house is so neat and welcoming. There's a great variety of plants and in the garden flora in general.  The owners are still adding new plants, and you could see some lovely new saplings that had recently been planted. Kudos and thanks to the owners for mowing the rather large lawn in front of the house. Everything around this house is really tidy.

Elegant representatives, the family of Johannes and Asgerd, accepted the awards on their behalf.

Birkiberg 8

Once again, Birkibergið is attracting attention for its elegance and beautiful gardens. Here is an older garden that has aged exceptionally well. The beautiful entrance and the layout are well resolved, allowing each space to be enjoyed. This garden is very stylish and connects with nature in a beautiful way.
