There will be a half-term holiday in the primary schools and the Hafnarfjörður Music School on Monday 23rd October and Tuesday 24th October. To mark the occasion, the Healthy Town of Hafnarfjörður is inviting children and their families to take part in a fun, organised programme, a fun bingo game or simply take advantage of the opportunities and possibilities that can be found all over Hafnarfjörður for promoting health and enjoying quality family time.

Winter holiday in Hafnarfjörður's primary schools on 23 and 24 October

There are half-term holidays in the primary schools and the Hafnarfjörður Music School on Monday 23rd October and Tuesday 24th October. To mark the occasion, the Healthy Town of Hafnarfjörður is inviting children and their families to take part in a fun, organised programme, a fun bingo game or simply take the opportunities and possibilities that can be found all over Hafnarfjörður for health and wellbeing, and for beautiful family time together. The City of Hafnarfjörður website offers plenty of ideas for interesting places to visit; playgrounds and sports pitches are widespread, and numerous walking and cycling trails run through Hafnarfjörður. Swimming will be free in all the city's pools on both days.

Monday 23 October

  • FREE SWIMMING from 6:30-22 at Ásvallalaug, Suðurbæjarlaug and the Swimming Hall until 9 p.m.
  • Hafnarfjörður Museum of Local History: A treasure hunt for the children and interesting exhibitions. Open 11am-3pm.
  • Hafnarfjörður Library: Cosy cinema in the multipurpose hall from 12-2 pm. Blankets, rice bags, pillows and cosiness! Come to the cinema at Hafnarfjörður Library! Workshop in the children's section – let's make our own book covers! from 13:00 – 15:00. Do you want to write a book? Or perhaps improve one? We'll be making book covers together in the children's section! A Harry Potter scavenger hunt is running throughout the library all day.
  • Port city: Artist Ingunn Fjóla Ingþórsdóttir will be holding an art workshop at Apótekinu from 13:00 to 15:00. The workshop is related to the exhibition GILDI, which features artworks from the Hafnarborg collection.

Tuesday, 24 October

  • Women's Strike Day 2023. Services at Hafnarfjörður Borough Council facilities, such as swimming pools and museums, will be restricted.

Grab a paddle on your winter holiday!

Hafnarfjörður Badminton Club offers children, teenagers and parents who are in town for the winter holidays to come and play badminton and table tennis at the sports hall on Strandgata during this time. Open sessions for registered BH members and their parents will be held on Monday 23rd October and Tuesday 24th October from 10 am to 12 pm. In addition, the regular training sessions according to the afternoon training timetable will take place for registered members on both of these days. Open sessions for children and parents who are not registered with the club will be held on Monday 23rd October and Tuesday 24th October from 13:00 to 15:00. Booking is essential for these sessions as space is limited, but entry is free of charge. BH coaches will be on hand on both days to welcome everyone. Clubs and balls will be available to borrow for those who need them.
