Tuesday, 7 November at 12 We welcome you to the next lunchtime concert at Hafnarborg, where the soprano singer will perform. Bryndís Guðjónsdóttir guest Antonia Hevesi, pianist and artistic director of the concert series. The programme features arias from operas and operettas by Verdi, Strauss and Bernstein. The title of the concert this time is „Party and Plat“.
Bryndís Guðjónsdóttir, soprano, completed her postgraduate studies in singing in 2015 from the Kópavogur School of Music, where she studied under Anna Júlíana Sveinsdóttir. From there, she went to the Iceland Academy of the Arts for one year, where she studied with Kristinn Sigmundsson, Ólöf Kolbrún Harðardóttir and Þóra Einarsdóttir. Bryndís then graduated with both a bachelor's and a master's degree from the Mozarteum University of Music in Salzburg, where she studied under Michèle Crider. Bryndís is the winner of several competitions in Europe, including the XVIII Certamen Nuevas Voces Ciudad de Sevilla in Spain (2022), the Riccardo Zandonai in Garda, Italy (2021), the Duschek in Prague, Czech Republic (2018), and Young Soloists (2018). Bryndís has also appeared in numerous concerts, such as with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra in the Young Soloists concert conducted by Daniel Raiskin (2018), the Iceland Symphony Orchestra's Christmas concert conducted by Eva Ollikainen (2021) and in The Tale of the Magic Flute under the direction of Kornilios Michailidis (2023).
Bryndís is a regular guest of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in Prague and has, for example, sung the soprano solo in Carmina Burana with them at the Liederhalle Stuttgart and will sing it again with them in the spring of 2024. She also sang the same work in 2022 in the Northern Lights Hall of Harpa with the Hljómfélagið choir, conducted by Fjóla Kristín Nikulásdóttir. In the spring of 2023, she sang the role of the Queen of the Night at the Opera House in Kassel, Germany, Cunegonde from the opera Candide by Bernstein at the Opera House in Kiel, Germany, and the Contessa from the opera The Birdcatchers by Gassmann at the Teatro Verdi in Martina Franca, Italy. Her current highlight is an Opera Gala at the Kiel Opera House, the role of Belinda in the opera Dido and Aeneas by Purcell in Vilnius, Lithuania, as well as singing To the knees by Anna Thorvaldsdottir with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and the Choir of Hallgrímskirkja. She will then appear at the New Year's concert in the Teatro Maestranza in Seville, Spain, with the Royal Symphony Orchestra of Seville conducted by Lucas Macías.
Antonia Hevesi, a pianist, has been the artistic director of the lunchtime concerts at Hafnarborg since their inception, and they have been a regular feature of the museum's programme since 2003. There, Antonía has been joined by many of the country's leading singers, with the aim of the concerts being to give visitors the opportunity to enjoy live music at their leisure. The lunchtime concerts are usually held on the first Tuesday of each month during the winter season.
The concert starts at 12 noon and will last for about half an hour. The venue opens at 11:30 am and the concert is open to all, subject to capacity. Admission is free.
