The autumn and beautiful winter days have been used, among other things, to prepare for Christmas in the Christmas town. In recent years, the Christmas town of Hafnarfjörður has firmly stamped itself into the minds and hearts of Hafnarfjörður residents, tourists, and friends of Hafnarfjörður from all over the country, through the concerted and good efforts of all; residents, businesses and institutions in all parts of the town. Everyone has pulled together, put on their Christmas hats, taken a deep breath of the Christmas spirit and taken part. Thousands have visited our Christmas town during Advent and experienced everything our beautiful town has to offer in terms of wellbeing, culture, art, food, shopping and services.
Christmas village, fairyland and ice rink
Christmas is steadily making its way to Hafnarfjörður, and now in October and early November, the town's staff have been working on setting up Christmas decorations all over the town. New lights and decorations will continue to be added over the coming days and weeks. The Christmas Magazine of Hafnarfjörður will be published in mid-November and, as in the last three years, will be full of heartwarming content about the city's rewarding and charitable projects, progressive local businesses, and the people who make up the town. The Ice Rink opens on 10 November, the Christmas Village at Thorsplan with all its beautifully decorated chalets and festive cheer opens on Friday, 17 November, and the Christmas Adventure in Hellisgerði is also in full preparation.
An appeal to the town's residents and businesses
The days are starting to get shorter, and for many, the time for Christmas lights is drawing near. Hafnarfjörður Municipality encourages residents to put up their Christmas lights if they have not already done so. Council staff are working steadily through the town, installing lights in busy locations and open spaces. All of this is done with the aim of delighting the eye and the spirit, and promoting a positive experience and enjoyment for those who pass through the town, whether on foot, running, cycling or driving.
