Mozart

Mozart by candlelight in Hafnarfjörður Church, 19th December at 21:00.

Camerarctica is holding its annual candlelit concerts in churches just before Christmas.

The group has been playing the gentle music of Mozart for thirty-one years, and for many, it is an essential escape from the Christmas rush, into the tranquillity and candlelight of the twilight. The group consists of clarinettist Ármann Helgason, violinists Hildigunnur Halldórsdóttir and Bryndís Pálsdóttir, violists Svava Bernharðsdóttir and Guðrún Þórarinsdóttir, and cellist Sigurður Haldórsson. The programme includes magnificent works by Mozart: the Quartet for Clarinet and Strings in B-flat major, KV 378, and the Quintet for Strings in B-flat major, KV 174.

As is tradition, the concert concludes with Camerarctica playing the fine Christmas hymn, ”Today There Is Gladness in Sad Hearts” by Mozart.

The concert will be held in Hafnarfjarðarkirkja on Tuesday evening, 19th December., at Kópavogskirkja on Wednesday evening, 20th December, at Garðakirkja on Thursday evening, 21st December and at the Cathedral in Reykjavík on Friday evening, 22nd December.

The concerts are an hour long and they all start at 9 p.m.. Admission is kr. 3,500, kr. 2,500 for students, disabled people and senior citizens, and free for children. Tickets are available at the door and on Tix.is.
