Sunnudaginn 10. desember kl. 14 We welcome you to a curator's talk about the Hafnarborg autumn exhibition, A landscape for the chosen, together with Eva Lín Vilhjálmsdóttir and Oddu Júlíu Snorradóttur en sýningin var enduropnuð um liðna helgi eftir endurbætur á aðalsal safnsins, þar sem meðal annars var skipt um ljósabúnað safnsins.

The exhibition sets out to explore the imagery and possibilities of escapism. We live in a world of extreme, looming change, where society is increasingly calling on individuals to take responsibility for global problems. Seeking escapism has therefore become a major part of everyday life, even though escapism has accompanied us throughout the ages and its manifestations always reflect the very condition from which one intends to flee.

The artists taking part in the exhibition are Arna Beth, Fritz Hendrik IV, Margrét Helga Sesseljudóttir, Sól Hansdóttir, Vikram Pradhan, Bíbí Söring and Þrándur Jóhannsson, in addition to works by Eirík Smith, Patrick Huse and Sigrid Valtingojer from the collections of Hafnarborg and the ASÍ Art Museum.

Eva Lín Vilhjálmsdóttir (b. 1995) graduated with a BA in Philosophy from the University of Iceland and an MA in Philosophy with a focus on Aesthetics from King's College London. She currently works as a communications officer at i8 gallery alongside her independent projects. Eva Lín has written about art and interviewed artists for various magazines, and continues to develop her own art-philosophical practice through her projects. Approaching the art world from a philosophical perspective, she emphasises a critical approach to contemporary art and examines its social context within visual culture.

Odda Júlía Snorradóttir (b. 1997) graduated with an MA in Curatorial Studies from the University of Iceland in 2023. She has also completed a BA in Art History and a postgraduate diploma in Applied Cultural Communication from the same institution. She is currently working as the Curator of Collections at Nýló, as well as a freelance curator and writer. Recently, she has focused on exploring the potential of imagined worlds to influence the environment we move through and know as reality: to create worlds that are both connected to and separate from our own, at once familiar and alien, thereby forcing us to reconcile our contradictory ideas about reality.
