In my view: Shadow Theatre – a multilingual storytelling workshop
On Sunday 11 October from 1 pm to 3 pm, Hafnarborg and GETA are hosting a multilingual storytelling workshop where participants will create characters and tell…
Monday, 5th August at 2 p.m. We welcome you to Guidance in English About the museum's current exhibitions: At times and at all times, which focuses on the various manifestations of time in the works of the artists Arna Óttarsdóttir, Leslie Roberts and Amy Brener, and Cassio Peau, a solo exhibition by Guðný Guðmundsdóttir in Sverris Hall at the museum. The tour is part of the 'In My Language' event series, which aims to welcome visitors to the museum in different languages, thereby increasing access to Hafnarborg for people from diverse backgrounds. The series is supported by the Museum Fund.
At the exhibition At times and at all times one can see how ideas about time are woven in different ways into the works of the three artists, Arna Óttarsdóttir, Leslie Roberts and Amy Brener, where one could say they collect traces of our contemporary era and transfer them into a tangible form through personal interpretation and various techniques. There is also a certain lightness and humour to the works – something akin to nonchalance – which could be interpreted as an attempt to come to terms with the absurdity of the contemporary world. Perhaps their works could be read as an attempt to stop time, or even to step outside of the contemporary moment.
At the exhibition by Guðný Guðmundsdóttir, Cassio Peau, works the artist creates on paper and in clay, as well as video works, are on display. She reflects herself in the works, bringing to the fore themes of a wounded ego, self-aggrandisement and narcissism, drawing inspiration from Greek mythology. The viewer steps into an ambiguous world, where titles in different languages, inscriptions and numerous references to creatures and phenomena from the classical world can be found. The works then move us back and forth in time, prompting us to ponder inner connections, as they form a kind of constellation or cluster that perhaps offers more questions than answers.
Free admission – see you at Hafnarborg.
