The bonds of friendship with Tartu are strengthened!
A twelve-member delegation from Hafnarfjörður's twin town, Tartu in Estonia, visited the town at the beginning of the week. They looked at the operations and sports facilities and were pleased with the reception.
A delegation from Tartu visited the beautiful fjord!
Visitors from Hafnarfjörður's twin town of Tartu in Estonia got to know the municipality well when they came for an official visit earlier this week. They visited Lækjarskóli, where they were welcomed by Kristín Blöndal, a teacher, gender studies specialist, and project manager for the implementation of sex and gender education in Hafnarfjörður's primary schools. Twelve were in the delegation, which familiarised itself with the town's sports facilities and met with Magnús Gunnarsson, chairman of Haukar, and Viðar Halldórsson, chairman of FH.
The delegation also inspected the brand-new facilities of the Hafnarfjörður Sailing Club and met with Aðalsteinn Valdimarsson, chairman of the board. Aðalsteinn Hrafnkellsson, manager of the swimming pools in Hafnarfjörður, and Klaus Jurgen Ohk, executive director and swimming coach at SH, also met the group and showed them the facilities.

Hafnarfjörður and its twin towns
Tartu is one of Hafnarfjörður's twin towns, just like Tvöroyri in the Faroe Islands and Baoding in China. The Cuxhaven Society operates in the town, linking the twin towns of Hafnarfjörður and Cuxhaven in Germany. These twinning links were established in 1988. The Director of Administration is responsible for foreign relations on behalf of the City of Hafnarfjörður.
It is generally the aim for the twin towns to meet every other year at twin town conventions. The conventions feature events from youth, sports and cultural groups from the towns, as well as conferences and seminars on various common issues concerning the towns. The twinning association also promotes visits by school groups and educational visits between the locations. The day with the Tartu delegation was a great success, strengthening the ties with the twin town.
The City of Hafnarfjörður warmly thanks the delegation for the pleasant time together.
