Teitur Jónasson takes the wheel in Hafnarfjörður

From 1 July, the bus company Teitur Jónasson will provide all transport services for elderly people and residents with disabilities in Hafnarfjörður. Although Teitur is taking over, there is no need to worry about journeys already booked, as the schedules will remain in place.

Hafnarfjörður is increasing the number of journeys in its transport-on-demand service.

The coach company Teitur Jónasson ehf. will provide all transport services for elderly people and people with disabilities in Hafnarfjörður from 1 July, after winning the tender for the service. Single and regular journeys can be booked and cancelled by telephone on 515-2720 and by email at ferd@teitur.is.

The customer service opening hours are from 08:00 to 16:00 on weekdays, and the ordering procedure will be the same as before, with a new service provider.  

Booked tours are standing

Those who have booked journeys in advance with the current service provider, Hópbílum, need to not to do it again with a new service provider, but it is possible to send an email after 30 June to ferd@teitur.is and get confirmation for booked trips.

As has been reported, the number of trips provided by the town's transport service for the elderly has been increased from 8 to 16 per month in Hafnarfjörður. Those who wish to increase the number of trips can submit an application to My pages on the Hafnarfjörður City website. Applications can also be submitted on a form available from the Service Desk at Strandgata 6.

New price list for the elderly

For those who are older, it is worth knowing that new rules came into effect on 15 May 2024. They are accompanied by a new, income-related fare table from 1 July. The journey costs the same as a standard bus fare, or 1,100 krónur. The higher fare is intended for individuals with an income from 382,240 krónur per month, and 621,142 krónur for couples. For the lower amount, a copy of the tax return can be sent to the email address akstur@hafnarfjordur.is, or return it to the customer service at 6 Strandgata. You can then fill in a new application online and include it with the return. The price remains unchanged for people with disabilities.
