Hemn has been experimenting as an artist to discover his style. His artworks are abstract and surreal; he creates them with geometry as a priority. He uses abstraction to introduce a deviation from reality when creating his works. He creates surreal characters with his work, aided by geometry.
Hemn gets the audience to interpret the artworks with their own thoughts and feelings. Hemn's works tend to break down the fundamental creation of the piece, where it is rather crystallised in its endeavour, transforming solid matter into energy and purpose. Which is the truth of all creation! But to know the truth, a great will must be present. That is why the exhibition is called „Free Will“.“
Hemn A. Hussein is a Kurdish interdisciplinary artist from southern Kurdistan with a BA in English Philosophy and an M.Sc. in Social Sciences/International Relations. His artistic output has multiplied since his arrival in Iceland in 2020 as an asylum seeker. Since then, he has collaborated with Icelandic and international institutions on various art projects. For example, he has exhibited paintings, theatre productions, performance art and films. Hemn will continue to promote his art, whether abroad or here in Iceland, where he is based.
The exhibition opening will be on Thursday, 25th July from 18:00-20:00 and all are welcome!

Hemn has been experimenting with style, creation and content in order to find his own unique path to his art. Hemn's artworks are abstract and surreal with a complete embrace of geometry. Abstract for the sole reason of indicating a departure from reality in the depiction of the imagery.
Surreal because of the appearance of the unidentified humanoid figures and, finally, geometric, through the use of intense and calculated sacred geometry. However, Hemn tends to completely liberate viewers to interpret the artworks through their subjective feelings, thoughts and emotions.
The exhibited works tend to break down creation to its very basic crystalline element in an effort of turning solid matter into energy and vibration. The truth of all creation. But getting to know the truth takes the highest form of will. For this exact reason he titles the exhibition ‘Free Will’ or in Icelandic ‘Frjáls Vilji’. He prefers the Icelandic title as it intensifies and elaborates the meaning of the phrase altogether.
Hemn A. Hussein is a Kurdish multidisciplinary artist from the Southern region of Kurdistan. He holds a BA in English Philology and an MA in Social Sciences/International Relations. His artistic journey intensified upon his arrival in Iceland in 2020 as an asylum seeker, and since then he has been collaborating with local and international organisations on multiple art projects, including painting, theatre, performance art and filmmaking. His journey will continue abroad and in Iceland, which he calls ‘Heim’ or Home.
