In my language: Time and Time Again and Cassiopeia – Guided tour in English

On Monday, 5th August at 2 p.m., we invite you to a guided tour in English of our current exhibitions: Time and Time Again, featuring works by artists Arna Óttarsdóttir, Leslie Roberts and Amy Brener, and Cassiopeia by Guðný Guðmundsdóttir. The event is part of the museum's programme 'In My Language', which aims to welcome guests to Hafnarborg in various languages, thus making the museum more accessible to people from different backgrounds. The programme is supported by the Museum Fund.

Ideas about time are woven into the works of all three artists participating in the exhibition Time and Time Again, as one might say they collect traces of our present through personal interpretation. There is also a certain lightness, or a sense of humour in their works – a sense of nonchalance – which could be interpreted as an attempt to recognise the absurdity of the times we live in. Perhaps, their works can be read as an attempt to stop time, or even step out of the present.
Guðný Guðmundsdóttir's exhibition Cassiopeia features new and recent works by the artist, made on paper and in clay, as well as video works. Through the mirror of art, the works evoke ideas of bruised ego, vanity and self-adulation, seeking inspiration from Greek mythology. The viewer enters a world of references, encountering titles in various languages, inscriptions and named figures or beings from classical myths. Pulling us backwards and forwards in time, the works make us contemplate the relationships hidden within, forming a constellation that perhaps raises more questions than answers.
Free entry – see you at Hafnarborg.

In my language: At all times and Cassiopeia – a guide in English

On Monday, 5th August at 2 pm, we invite you to a guided tour in English of the museum's current exhibitions: In Time and Out of Time, which focuses on the various manifestations of time in the works of the artists Arna Óttarsdóttir, Leslie Roberts and Amy Brener, and Cassiopeia, a solo exhibition by Guðný Guðmundsdóttir in the Sverris Hall of the museum. The tour is part of the 'In My Own Language' event series, which aims to welcome visitors to the museum in different languages, thereby increasing accessibility to Hafnarborg for people from diverse backgrounds. The series is supported by the Museum Fund.
The exhibition In Time and Out of Time shows how ideas about time are woven in different ways into the works of the three artists, Arna Óttarsdóttir, Leslie Roberts and Amy Brener, whose work can be seen as a collection of traces of our contemporary era, translated into a tangible form through personal interpretation and various methods. There is also a certain lightness and humour to the works – something akin to nonchalance – which could be interpreted as an attempt to come to terms with the absurdity of the contemporary world. Perhaps their works could be read as an attempt to stop time, or even to step outside of the contemporary moment.
The exhibition by Guðný Guðmundsdóttir, Cassiopeia, features works the artist creates on paper and in clay, as well as video works. She also mirrors herself in the works, drawing out reflections on a wounded ego, self-aggrandisement and narcissism, with inspiration drawn from Greek mythology. The viewer steps into an ambiguous world, where titles in different languages, inscriptions and numerous references to beings and phenomena from the classical world can be found. The works then move us back and forth in time, prompting us to ponder inner connections, as they form a kind of constellation or cluster that perhaps offers more questions than answers.
Free admission – see you at Hafnarborg.
