Hafnarborg invites primary school children in Hafnarfjörður to come and take part in creative art workshops run by the museum during the winter school holidays, on the 24th and 25th of October. Each workshop will have its own theme, so you are welcome to take part on one or both days.

Free art creation – drawing and colours
Thursday, 24th October, 1 pm - 3 pm

A relaxed atmosphere will be provided where workshop participants can come together and draw collaboratively. A collective artwork will be created in an improvisational way, thus forming one large drawing. All materials will be provided, and participants will be encouraged to experiment with a variety of materials, such as pencils, coloured pencils, ink, watercolours and charcoal. The workshop will be led by artist Sigurður Ámundason.

Halloween origami
Friday, 25th October, 1 pm - 3 pm

In the workshop, participants will be introduced to the art of origami, or Japanese paper-folding. Guests will then learn to fold and shape the paper to create spooky decorations in the spirit of Halloween. The workshop will be led by Yasuka Kawakami, who will share origami techniques from her native Japan, alongside artist Ingunn Fjóla Ingþórsdóttir. The workshop leaders speak Icelandic, English and Japanese. The event is part of the museum's 'In My Own Language' series.

The workshops take place in the Pharmacy on the first floor of the museum, and children are advised to be accompanied by an adult. As usual, participation in the art workshops is free of charge for visitors, as is admission to the museum's exhibitions. You are very welcome.
