Half-term holiday 24th and 25th October. Come out and play!
There are half-term holidays in the primary schools, music school and, in part, in the nurseries of Hafnarfjörður, with enrolment days on Thursday, 24th October and Friday, 25th October. To mark the occasion, there is, among other things, free swimming for children and adults at Ásvallalaug, Suðurbæjarlaug and Sundhöll Hafnarfjarðar on these two days.
Weekend winter break
Various fun events will be held for the whole family during the winter holiday of the primary schools, music school and, to some extent, the nursery schools of Hafnarfjörður, with registration days on the 24th and 25th of October. Among other things, there will be Free swimming for children and adults on these two days at Ásvallalaug, Suðurbæjarlaug and Sundhöll Hafnarfjarðar. Please note that Frístund is closed on these two winter holiday days. These two days are also Registration days at the nursery school and we remind parents of that.
Thursday, 24th October
- The whole family gets FREE SWIMMING from 6:30-22 at Ásvallalaug and Suðurbæjarlaug, and at the Sundhöll until 21:00.
Port city
- Free art creation – drawing and colouring. Art workshop for primary school children, 13:00-15:00. A relaxed atmosphere will be provided where workshop participants can come together and draw collaboratively. A collective artwork will be created in an improvisational way, resulting in one large drawing. The workshop will be led by Sigurður Ámundason.
Hafnarfjörður Library
- Family workshop for ages 6 and over – 15:00 – 17:00. Art, nature and creativity come together in this fun workshop for energetic children and parents. The theme of the day is Monsters and Demons.
- Planet Sensory Playgroup – 15:00 – 16:30. We invite little ones to come along for a developmental and stimulating session, where they can play and explore the world in a colourful and fun way with other children.
Hafnarfjörður Museum of Local History
- Treasure Hunt in the Packhouse – 11:00 – 15:00. Perfect for families to visit the museum using the treasure hunt as a guide.
- Children's tour in the Packhouse – 12:00.
The Innovation Centre at Lækinn 17:00 – 22:00
- Role-playing game For 15-16 year-olds! The house opens at 5pm and play starts at 6pm. All welcome.
Friday 25 October
- The whole family gets FREE SWIMMING from 6:30-8pm at Ásvallalaug and Suðurbæjarlaug, and at the Swimming Hall until 9pm.
Port city
- Halloween Origami. An art workshop for primary school children, 13:00-15:00. In the workshop, participants will get to learn the art of origami, or Japanese paper folding. Participants will then learn to fold and shape the paper to create spooky decorations in the spirit of Halloween. The workshop will be led by Yasuka Kawakami and Ingunn Fjóla Ingþórsdóttir. The workshop leaders speak Icelandic, English and Japanese.

- 13:00 – Film screening for the younger group in the multipurpose hall
- 13:00-17:00 – Scavenger hunt and self-directed workshop in the children's section for children of all ages.
