The Hamarskotslækjar Festival will be held this year at Hafnarborg on 14 December at 3 p.m. There will be a lecture by Steinunn Guðnadóttir on the life of Jóhannes J. Reykdal, and by his granddaughter, Lovísa Cristiansen, on his wife, Þórunn Böðvarsdóttir. Halldór Árni Sveinsson will show footage from the last four decades, free of charge. The Hamarskotslækur Festival is now being held for the tenth time and has, from the beginning, been held in collaboration with the Christmas Village in Hafnarfjörður.

The cultural festival is held to commemorate the pioneer Jóhannes J. Reykdal, who single-handedly built the first power station to generate electricity for the town in 1904. Jóhannes was born in 1874, and 150 years have passed since his birth. It has also been 120 years since this first public power company was established.
