All over the place, a new information website about outdoor activities in the capital region, was formally launched at a meeting of the board of the Association of Local Authorities in the Capital Region (SSH) on Monday, 3 February. The website utumallt.is provides an overview and information on over 30 fun outdoor areas and 40 mapped walking and cycling routes, across the capital region. The routes are accompanied by useful information, such as difficulty level and duration, and the user can also see their own location on a map and follow the route in real time. The site has a good search engine and allows you to filter by various criteria such as municipality, facilities, services and accessibility. The website, which is available in both Icelandic and English, is a joint project between SSH and the Marketing Office of the Capital Region.

Increased use of green spaces and physical activity
„One of the guiding principles of the Capital Region's strategic plan is to promote a healthy environment and a healthy lifestyle. With this in mind, we decided to develop and launch a high-quality outdoor activities website that provides an overview of the diverse opportunities the capital region has to offer. This will make them both more visible and accessible to residents. We sincerely hope that the website will encourage increased physical activity, enjoyment, and use of the green spaces.“ says Páll Björgvin Guðmundsson, managing director of SSH. Páll Björgvin points out that Út um allt is linked to other projects that contribute to the goals of the regional development plan, for example the Mapping of Outdoor Recreation Areas in the Capital Region, which was completed in 2023. The website is also linked to the Capital Region Transport Agreement and the extensive development of cycle and walking paths provided for therein, which is then designed to utilise the Capital Region's cycle and walking path network for the future.
Extensive consultation and needs analysis
„This has been an exceptionally enjoyable project to develop, with volunteers, for example, taking part in mapping the trails. A special mention should go to the cycling association Reiðhjólabændur, who marked and recorded cycling routes for us and categorised them by difficulty level, and we extend our sincere thanks to them.“ says Páll Björgvin. The project has been in preparation for almost two years. An in-depth needs analysis was undertaken, and consultations were held with residents, the municipalities, the tourism industry and other stakeholders in the capital region, as it is important that the website is tailored to the needs of its users. The website is based on the centralised registration system and database of the Tourist Board, which manages walking routes and outdoor recreation areas across the country. The company Sjá – óháð ráðgjöf handled the preparation and needs analysis, while the company Um að gera handled the design and development. „We will now continue to develop Out All Over and add routes and fun areas. We encourage everyone to use the website and get out and enjoy the nature that surrounds the capital region.“ says Inga Hlín Pálsdóttir, Managing Director of the Marketing Agency of the Capital Region.
