Sunday, 9 March at 1 pm We welcome you to a discussion about the exhibition. Helga Vignis Bragasonar, Kyrrs career, which is currently on display at the museum. The artist will then have a dialogue with the architect and the cultural scholar. Anna María Bogadóttir on the subject of the exhibition, which revolves around the photographer's visual exploration of buildings and building materials. The subject matter thus constitutes a multi-layered analysis of the beginning and end of buildings, where Helgi critically examines numerous aspects of the construction industry, such as material utilisation, waste, and environmental impact. The curator is Aldís Arnardóttir, and the exhibition was presented as part of the Iceland Photo Festival 2025.

The exhibition features, among other things, still lifes created from building waste or symbols of affluence from construction sites, as well as photographs of concrete fragments and drawings of buildings that were demolished long before their time. By focusing on building sites and construction waste, Helgi Vignir invites us to reflect on the environmental, economic and social impacts of urban development in a contemporary context. His meticulously crafted still lifes, with their precise arrangements of colourful plastic packaging, are a testament to the vast quantities of building materials that leave the construction site as waste. As well as prompting viewers to reflect on the life cycle of buildings, the exhibition may therefore raise questions about the ephemeral nature of urban development and the sacrifices that are often forgotten when the built environment is altered.

Helgi Vignir Bragason graduated with a diploma in creative photography from the School of Photography in 2023. He had previously completed an M.Sc. in Management from the University of Reykjavík (2013) and a B.Sc. in Building Engineering from Vitus Bering CVU in Horsens, Denmark (2003). Helgi's work is therefore often connected to his decades of experience in the construction industry. The artist's recent exhibitions include ÁBATI – a reflection on material at the Fire Station, Reykjavík (2024), and Ljósrák at Gallery Kannski, Reykjavík (2024). Helgi Vignir is a member of FÍSL and SÍM and lives and works in Hafnarfjörður.
