Árdís Ármannsdóttir, new Director of Service and Development

New Director at the City of Hafnarfjörður

The selection panel for the appointment of the Director of the Service and Development Department recommended at a meeting of the Town Council today that Árdís Ármannsdóttir be appointed to the post of Director of the Service and Development Department. Árdís has worked as Communications Manager for the City of Hafnarfjörður since 2015, as well as being the deputy director of the Service and Development Department since the department was established in 2019.

Árdís holds an M.Sc. in Management, Strategy and Leadership from Aarhus Business School and a B.Sc. in International Marketing. She has extensive experience across a diverse range of areas, from direct customer service, marketing management, information dissemination, event management, project management and operations, to managing a start-up.

Árdís Ármannsdóttir is the new Director of Department at the City of Hafnarfjörður.

She served as Director of the Service and Development Department for six months in 2024, in the absence of the Director. Before Árdís began working for the City of Hafnarfjörður, she worked for, among others, the City of Vestmannaeyjar and the University of Reykjavík, the start-up company Skema, the Icelandic Innovation Centre, Landsbankinn and Flugfélag Íslands. For several years, Árdís has served on the board of the Icelandic National Commission for UNESCO.

A total of 47 people applied for the post of director, but 22 withdrew their applications after a list of names was requested for publication. The town council appointed a three-person suitability panel for the recruitment, and its recommendation to hire Árdís was unanimously approved by the town council. The recruitment followed the advice of Intellecta.
