Streets swept in Hafnarfjörður

News

Spring sweeping of streets, pavements and footpaths in Hafnarfjörður has begun. The progress is weather-dependent, but the aim is to have finished sweeping the neighbourhoods by the end of the month.

The street sweeper is out and about.

Summer is approaching, and this spring will be used to beautify our town so that it lives up to its name – The Beautiful Fjord. The streets will therefore be swept and tidied up over the coming weeks.
The street sweeping began at the end of the month. Over the next few days, each neighbourhood will be swept in turn. The town is divided into 15 districts, each of which is swept in a single day. Street sweeping in the districts of Hafnarfjörður began this week and will proceed as weather permits.
Here we see the plan that is followed:

Be prepared and take part

Signs are put up in each neighbourhood the day before sweeping, and residents living in the area are also sent a text message to let them know their neighbourhood will be swept.
Residents are kindly requested to take an active part to ensure the best possible results. It is essential that the streets are clear of cars on the day of sweeping so that the kerb edges can be swept.
  • Residents and business staff can take the opportunity to sweep up around their own premises. This will make the whole area look much tidier.
As soon as the street sweeping is complete, high-pressure washing will commence, followed by sweeping of main roads and principal collector roads, along with central reservations. The work plan is subject to change, primarily due to weather (frost) and delays by the contractor responsible for the sweeping.
Yes, let's enjoy listening to the street sweepers and seeing our streets sparkling clean!
