Fun in Víðistaðatún

Aron Can, MC Gauti, VÆB, and Gusgusar, all sorts of workshops like hair, arts and crafts, and jewellery making. Pláhneta will be running a sensory workshop and there will be baby massage! Oh, yes, there will be a children's festival in Víðistaðatún all weekend; on the 28th-29th of June.

The Kátt children's festival is being held for the 6th time, and for the second time here in Hafnarfjörður. It's guaranteed to be a blast. The programme is packed, as you can see.

„We make sure the programme is suitable for all age groups. We have a programme for the very youngest children, from a few months to eighteen years old,“ says Hafdís Arnardóttir, project manager and marketing specialist. We popped in on the preparations this morning. It was all go, and a group from our work experience programme had arrived to set up tables and benches.

Sunshine in the cards

„The sun is out and it's going to be with us all weekend. The set-up is going really well. We're ahead of schedule and ticket sales are taking off,“ she says.

The festival is aimed at the family and is designed to simplify their lives. „People can leave their changing bags at home because we have a changing facility for the babies,“ she says cheerfully.

„This is the sixth year the festival has been held, but the first year we've been on for two days. We're both earlier than in previous years and for two days,“ she says, adding that the festival organisers wanted to take into account the timing before people head off abroad or to campsites outside the capital region.

„It also seems that the weather is generally better in May and June than in July and August,“ she says, and it seems they've bet on the right horse, because the weather forecast is splendid. 15 degrees and sun tomorrow, Saturday, and 15 degrees and partly cloudy on Sunday! What lovely weather.

Children's culture is important

Hafdís says that those behind Kátt want as many people as possible working on children's culture to join them.

„The idea behind the festival is to showcase what's on offer in children's culture. We have baby yoga, sound healing which the children love. There's also baby massage.“ Yes, they'll experience many new things at Kátt. A great time for the family to come and spend time together. „Yes, this is a dream outdoor festival for children and adults,“ she says.

„We want you to be with your child inside here. Adults are not permitted in the area unless accompanied by children, and children are not allowed to leave the area unless accompanied by an adult. We are so excited about this passion project of ours for families to enjoy. Kátt on Víðistaðatún is all about being and doing with your children.“
