A stylish look for your surroundings
Te & Kaffi is considered a good example for companies in terms of tidiness and general upkeep. Environmental issues and appearance are very important to the company, and its production facilities, cafés and products all bear witness to the stylish image that guides its operations. The company recently received an award from the City of Hafnarfjörður for tidiness.
The family-run company Te & Kaffi started as a small shop selling coffee and tea in 1984 and is now a rapidly growing company with around 200 people employed in production, marketing and sales. For many years, the company has had its production and warehouse at Stapahraun in Hafnarfjörður, and it should be quite clear to anyone passing through the area that environmental issues and appearance are very important to the company. This philosophy is reflected throughout the company, as the cafés and Te & Kaffi's products bear witness to the stylish and beautiful image that staff and management want to be the guiding principle in all their operations. „We place an emphasis on a stylish and beautiful appearance in all our projects, operations and activities. In our large-scale operations, we have placed a strong emphasis on good housekeeping and the sorting of rubbish and other waste. Unfortunately, industrial areas often suffer from poor standards of cleanliness, with the prevailing attitude being that the nature of the work simply means it is impossible to keep the surroundings tidy. We do not agree with this. Anyone who wants to have a tidy environment can have a tidy environment, regardless of the nature of the business.“ says Guðmundur Halldórsson, managing director of Te & Kaffi. In its environmental policy, the company has outlined plans to implement the ISO 14001 environmental management standard in its cafés and production departments, and has worked towards increasingly comprehensive waste sorting across all departments and cafés. One project directly addresses the tidiness of the Stapahraun site, where waste sorting has been increased, trees have been planted, and an area previously used for dumping rubbish and car wrecks has been turfed over.„We consider it our social responsibility to take good care of environmental matters, and the response we have received encourages us to take even greater action in this area. We are extremely proud of the award recently presented to the company by the City of Hafnarfjörður for the tidiness of our premises, and we are delighted that our efforts are being recognised. However, the project to clean up Stapahraun will only be completed through a joint effort by all the businesses operating on the street, along with the steadfast support of the local council.“ says Gudmundur at the end.

A cleaning challenge for businesses in Hafnarfjörður
From 15th to 30th September, businesses in Hafnarfjörður can return timber and iron to specially designated containers at three locations in the town. With this initiative, the City of Hafnarfjörður aims to bring the service closer to businesses, thereby encouraging more to take part in making the industrial areas of Hafnarfjörður tidier. A clean appearance affects perception and business, and the direct contribution of all businesses is crucial for the appearance of Hafnarfjörður's business and industrial areas.
