A dynamic group of older people from diverse backgrounds came together for a five-day music course last week. The course was a pilot project by two music teachers at Hafnarfjörður Music School and truly brand new. During the course, a senior citizens„ band was “formed', where each person turned up with their own instrument and voice, and for those five days, we worked on carefully selected songs by The Beatles. The course concluded with a house concert in the beautiful and modern facilities of the Hafnarfjörður Music School at Skarðshlíðarskóli.

The backgrounds of those who attended the course are varied, but everyone in the group shares a solid foundation in music.

An opportunity to brush up on old skills

The course gave instrumentalists and music lovers among senior citizens, who have a certain foundation in playing an instrument and singing, the opportunity to brush up on old skills as well as to expand their knowledge of playing an instrument and ensemble playing. The course was led by Sigrún Kristbjörg Jónsdóttir and Inga Björk Ingadóttir, teachers from the music school. A similar course is planned for autumn 2021 and will be advertised on the music school's and the City of Hafnarfjörður's channels.
