Willingness to accept refugees

At a meeting of the Family Council of Hafnarfjörður this morning, the issue of refugees was discussed, and the council unanimously expressed its full willingness to participate in the government's project concerning the reception and assistance of groups of refugees expected to arrive in the country.

Guðlaug Kristjánsdóttir, chair of the family council, says that the City of Hafnarfjörður has good experience of receiving refugees that can be of use. “Hafnarfjörður has responded before, most recently last year, when a family from Afghanistan arrived here and that has gone very well. There is a strong and diverse community here, the town has a good foundation for welcoming new residents, including refugees.“
