Fun Church – so the children find the one true
Fourteen Hafnarfjörður clubs have signed up so that our children can find the leisure activity that suits them best. A Leisure Fair will be held in the sports hall on Strandgata on Saturday, 29th August, between 10 am and 2 pm.
All children deserve to find their hobby.
A leisure fair will be held here in Hafnarfjörður at the sports hall on Strandgata on 29th August. This is a perfect opportunity to introduce our children to the town's wide range of sports and leisure clubs, all in one place. Yes, find the leisure activity that best suits each child.
15 clubs in Hafnarfjörður have already registered to take part. Many of them offer a variety of disciplines. You can have fun trying them out on the spot.

The children flourish on their own terms.
The Leisure Time Mass is part of the City of Hafnarfjörður's strategy to support the health, activity and well-being of children and young people. As a healthy city, Hafnarfjörður emphasises that all children have the opportunity to be active, form social connections and thrive in their own way.
„The aim is not for all children to play the same sport or become elite athletes. The most important thing is for each child to find a pastime that sparks their interest, boosts their self-confidence and becomes part of a good daily routine.“ says Tinna Rós Steinsdóttir, sports officer for the Municipality of Hafnarfjörður. She says that participation in leisure activities has an impact far beyond the training or the activity itself.
A wide range on offer
„Leisure activities are not just about exercise. It's where children make friends, learn to cooperate, tackle challenges and experience the joy of belonging to a group. This experience strengthens their physical and mental health.“ In Hafnarfjörður, a wide range of activities is on offer, so most children should be able to find something to suit them.
„All children are different. Some find their niche in team sports, others in individual sports or creative pastimes. It's important to give them the opportunity to try things out and find what suits them best.“
To facilitate participation, the Municipality of Hafnarfjörður provides all children aged 3–18 with a leisure activity grant, which is intended to reduce financial barriers and ensure that as many children as possible can take part.
„We want finances to be as little of a barrier as possible when it comes to children's participation in leisure activities. The leisure activity grant is an important part of creating equal opportunities and encouraging families to take part.“
Just over 4,000 children and young people use the leisure activity grant annually, which is around 66%. There is a desire to see this figure increase.
A fun service for the whole family
At the Leisure Fair, sports and leisure clubs present their activities, offer demonstrations and answer questions from children and parents.
Bridge builders will also be on hand to assist families from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
Tinna encourages all families to take the opportunity and attend the service. „The Leisure Time Fair is a fantastic way to see all the diverse activities on offer in Hafnarfjörður. Our hope is that every child goes home looking forward to new opportunities – and finds their place where they can grow, enjoy themselves and flourish.“
