Leisure grant for mother tongue and Icelandic language learning for children with a foreign background

Double the fee if a child attends both an activity and language lessons.
If a child with a foreign background is already using their leisure time grant for traditional sportsand leisure activities and intends to attend mother-tongue or Icelandic language lessons alongside, is granted permission during the course of the programme to double the municipality's leisure grant, so that they can participate in both. The aim of the City of Hafnarfjörður is to ensure equal access for children and young people to leisure activities, increase their participation, and encourage them to take part in organised sports and social activities. This step is part of that journey.
Amount and application process
The City of Hafnarfjörður provides all parents and guardians of children and young people in Hafnarfjörður, aged 6 to 18, with a monthly leisure grant of kr. 4,750 for their participation in organised sports and leisure activities. From 1 January of the year the child turns six, they can start receiving the grant and will stop receiving it on 31 December of the year they turn eighteen. The leisure grant for mother tongue and Icelandic language tuition is applied for via My Pages on the Hafnarfjörður website: Applications -> Leisure -> Leisure Grant for 6 to 18-year-olds outside of Sportabler and Nóra. There, you need to fill in all the relevant information about the grant recipient, attach a receipt and submit the application for processing. Payments are made on the 20th of each month for applications received on or before the 15th of that same month.
