A council house for the future in the heart of Hafnarfjörður
The City of Hafnarfjörður has purchased the Íslandsbanki premises at Strandgata 8-10 in Hafnarfjörður. The purchase price is 350 million króna, and with this purchase, the City of Hafnarfjörður has secured long-term premises for the municipal administration in the heart of the city.
Hafnarfjörður municipality buys Strandgata 8-10
The City of Hafnarfjörður has purchased the premises of Íslandsbanki at Strandgata 8-10 in Hafnarfjörður. Mayor Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir and Sigríður Hrefna Hrafnkelsdóttir, Managing Director of Íslandsbanki's Private Banking Division, signed the agreement to this effect today. The building houses the Hafnarfjörður town hall and an Íslandsbanki branch, and the bank will lease part of the ground floor space from the town for its operations. The purchase price is 350 million króna, and with the purchase, the City of Hafnarfjörður has secured long-term premises for the local authority in the heart of Hafnarfjörður.
„The future accommodation and housing needs for the City Hall of Hafnarfjörður and the town's administration have long been the subject of discussion and analysis within the municipality. It is therefore very welcome that a decision has been made regarding the future premises for the administration. Many have been waiting for this decision, and now we can proceed with the design and alterations to the premises that our operations and working environment require. The focus will first be on part of the ground floor, with an expansion of the customer service area and an increase in meeting rooms,“ says Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir, Mayor of Hafnarfjörður.
Formal handover 1 September 2023
8-10 Strandgata is currently home to both the Hafnarfjörður Town Hall and a branch of Íslandsbanki. The property comprises the entire building, which is a 1,521.8-square-metre office and bank facility, along with a share in the leasehold plot. The property is a five-storey building with a basement and four upper floors. The City of Hafnarfjörður has leased a large part of the property on the 2nd to 4th floors for its operations for many years. The formal handover of the property will take place on Friday, 1 September 2023. The agreement between Íslandsbanki and the City of Hafnarfjörður also stipulates that nine months after signing, a sales process will also commence for Linnetsstígur 3, which the municipality leases.
