A fine group of young people walked Fimmvörðuháls
On the first weekend in September, a hardy group of pupils from Öldutúnsskóli walked over the Fimmvörðuháls. In total, there were 32 pupils from years 8 to 10, accompanied by five chaperones. This is the fifth time the school has offered the so-called „Fimmvörðuháls option“, and this was by far the largest group to date.

Good weather and good spirits characterised the journey.
The trip went brilliantly well in every respect, the weather was kind to the group the whole time and the kids all performed superbly as one. They crossed the pass in 9 hours, which is very good going despite some aches and pains here and there. Once down in Þórsmörk, they had grilled hamburgers and stayed overnight in the hut at Básar. The group was wonderful in every respect and they received a lot of praise from the tour leaders, the caretaker at Básar, and the driver for their good conduct and pleasant demeanour.
