Metal, glass packaging, textiles and deposit-return packaging

Metal packaging (tins, etc.), glass packaging (glass jars, etc.), textiles (all clothing, regardless of condition, and other textiles) and deposit-return packaging (if residents choose to support the Scouts) should be collected and returned to local collection points. Deposit-return packaging can also be taken to Sörpa. Recycling centres (sorpa.is) and at the Recycling Bottle Collection Collection centres – Recycling.

A large container for metal packaging has arrived. the nearby station at Fjørður. There have been delays in increasing the number of metal containers at other local collection points in Hafnarfjörður, but these will be installed by March 2024 at the latest. Until then, residents are asked to separate metal packaging at home and take it to the collection point at Fjörður or to Sörpa's recycling centres.

Neighbourhood stations

There are kerbside recycling bins in six locations in Hafnarfjörður. At all locations, there are bins for paper, plastic and glass, as well as clothes bins from RKÍ and bottle bins from the Scouts at some of them. A large metal bin is located at the kerbside recycling station at Fjörður.

The installation of neighbourhood bins on Hvaleyrarholt and Ásland, and a central site for Skarðshlið, Hamranes and Ásland 4, is in progress.

Hazardous materials, metals, timber, furniture and other large and heavy items should be taken to Sörpa's container sites.
