The artwork is located at Sandvíkin, is connected to a street pipe and, until the first frost of the autumn, will spray water and create a rainbow on sunny days. The concept and execution are by the visual artist Guðmundur R. Lúðvíksson.

Another reason to visit Hvaleyrarvatn

Guðmundur graduated from the Iceland Academy of the Arts in 1991, but subsequently undertook postgraduate studies in Germany and the Netherlands. Since 1985, Guðmundur has exhibited in all the major museums and galleries in his home country, as well as in the Faroe Islands, Denmark, the Netherlands, Austria, Russia, Germany, Norway, Sweden, England, the United States, Belgium, Bulgaria and Greenland. Guðmundur has received much praise and recognition for his work. The artist was awarded a cultural grant from the City of Hafnarfjörður in the first allocation of 2021 for his concept for a water feature, which was decided to be installed at Hvaleyrarvatn. Hvaleyrarvatn and its surrounding area is an ideal spot for recreation, exercise and socialising, with a walking trail encircling the lake and many other walking paths nearby.
