At the beginning of the year, the City of Hafnarfjörður and the football club Haukar signed a construction contract for the building of a football hall at Ásvellir. At the same time, the club handed over an undeveloped plot of land to the City of Hafnarfjörður for the development of 100-110 flats. This concession created additional scope to accelerate the construction of the clubhouse. The construction of the building was put out to tender in the autumn, and ÍAV will begin work shortly.

Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir, Mayor of Hafnarfjörður, and Þóroddur Ottesen Arnarson, CEO of ÍAV, have signed an agreement for the construction of a sports hall at Ásvellir. Here with Kristinn Andersen, Speaker of the Hafnarfjörður Town Council, and Magnús Gunnarsson, Managing Director of Haukar.
Hauk's dream comes true
Haukar have long awaited improved facilities for football at Ásvellir, and with the arrival of a magnificent football centre, that dream is becoming a reality. The design of the football hall has been in progress since 2018, alongside a detailed environmental impact assessment, as was required. In the coming days, staff from ÍAV will begin preparing for the construction, and after two years, the sports hall is expected to be ready for use. Hafnarfjörður has long been a major sporting town and for years has produced champions in almost all areas of sport. Haukar play a major role there, with their professional club activities and strong support network. Impressive facilities have been built at Ásvellir over recent decades, and the new and impressive football centre will completely transform the facilities for Haukar's football section in a rapidly growing part of Hafnarfjörður, where new housing estates are springing up in Skarðshlíð, Hamranes and elsewhere.
