A new project manager for multiculturalism has started work.

Hildur Ýr Jónsdóttir is the new project manager for multicultural affairs for the City of Hafnarfjörður. Hildur Ýr will be responsible for the operation of multicultural affairs in the municipality, working across the municipality's departments, institutions, divisions and projects, with the role of strengthening existing and establishing new ways of welcoming people of foreign origin and encouraging their increased participation in society.

Hildur Ýr Jónsdóttir is the new Project Manager for Multicultural Affairs at the City of Hafnarfjörður. Hildur is an anthropologist with a B.A. in Drama and an M.A. in Theatre and Performing Arts. She has extensive experience in project management and community work in a multicultural context, and has worked on strategy development, information dissemination and cultural events for immigrants and refugees. Hildur has led various projects that promote integration, empowerment, and multicultural participation in society. Most recently, as a Project Officer for Social Support and Community Activities for applicants for international protection and refugees at the Red Cross.

Reception of residents of foreign origin and increased participation in society

Hildur Ýr will be responsible for the operation of multicultural affairs in the municipality, working across the municipality's departments, institutions, divisions and projects, with the role of strengthening existing methods and pioneering new ones for the reception of people of foreign origin, and encouraging their increased participation in society. The new multicultural project manager will, in the coming weeks, revive the Hafnarfjörður Multicultural Council, among other things, in collaboration with the Director of the Family and Children's Services Department. The Multicultural Council's role is to advise the City Council, committees and boards of Hafnarfjörður on the issues and interests of the town's immigrant residents. The main responsibilities of the multicultural project manager include providing information and carrying out promotion for foreign residents, developing policy in this area in collaboration with all relevant stakeholders, creating plans for the reception of new residents, and overseeing and supporting the multicultural council, visibility, and the acquisition and analysis of information on the status of immigrants in the municipality, as well as acting as the lead for communications regarding research, grants, and development projects in the field.

Hildur Ýr has already started work and is based in the office of the Service and Development Department on the second floor of Hafnarfjörður Town Hall.
