Want a new golf course in Hafnarfjörður

The town council has approved the establishment of a working group to consult with stakeholders on a new golf course in Hafnarfjörður's territory. The working group is to find a site for a new golf course within the Hafnarfjörður municipality. This will be done in consultation with stakeholders, including the Keili and Setberg golf clubs.

The main task of the group is:

  • To explore potential locations for a new golf course within the municipality of Hafnarfjörður and make a recommendation on a site.
  • To formulate proposals for the design and operational arrangements of a new golf course.

It is expected that the group's recommendations will be ready and presented to the town council in June.

Last year, the town council received letters from the golf clubs Keili and Setberg, in which they requested a letter of intent for new courses. A letter from the Keili Golf Club states that around 4,500 people are on the waiting lists of golf clubs in the capital region. The club has 1,850 members and the waiting list grows every year.

„A new golf course requires extensive planning and good preparation, something Golfklúbburinn Keilir has experience of after decades of developing the current course, which is considered one of the best in the country.“

Setberg Golf Club also pointed to a long waiting list. There are now 900 members, with hundreds more waiting in the wings.

„Golfklúbburinn Setberg places great emphasis on participating in the planning for a new site for sports activities and a golf course, with the aim of making sports and outdoor recreation as strong as possible in the area and in good harmony with the residents and other voluntary organisations in Hafnarfjörður,“ it states.

We are eagerly awaiting the results of the working group!
