Awards for effective management and multicultural work

Since 2008, the Education Committee of Hafnarfjörður municipality has awarded 1-3 accolades per year to individual school projects that are considered exemplary and characteristic of creative school work in Hafnarfjörður. This year, three schools received an award. Öldutúnsskóli and the Álfaberg nursery school for good staff morale and effective management, and Hvaleyrarskóli for educational and multicultural work in the school library.

All evaluations of the school's work in Hafnarfjörður show positive results for Öldutúnsskóli, including satisfaction with the management, high staff satisfaction, and increased academic progress for pupils. Similarly, the measurements show parental satisfaction with the school's work, particularly concerning student well-being, discipline, bullying, communication, and school management. 2017 Education Council Award: Álfaberg

The Álfaberg nursery school has received recognition for its good staff morale and effective management. Álfaberg is housed in the Engidal school building, which was designed for a primary school. The school's staff, under the leadership of the headteachers, have adapted well to the circumstances, created a learning environment for the children in which they feel comfortable, and the collaboration with parents has been exemplary. At the school, professional development is a natural part of the school's operations, and innovation and development are constantly underway, not least in connection with the town's literacy project. READING IS THE GAME OF LIFE, where the school's educational priorities are clearly reflected in its teaching plans and school curriculum. In recent years, numerous projects have received recognition from the Hafnarfjörður Municipal Education Board; projects that have been guided by initiative, professionalism and responsibility, and which promote collaboration, application and development in school activities and pedagogy.
