On Sunday, 15th December, awards were presented on Thorsplan for the best decorated houses in Hafnarfjörður.

Awards presented – these were the most successful in year  

Awards were presented for the best decorated houses and beautiful street scenes in Hafnarfjörður in the run-up to Christmas 2024.

At the beginning of December, residents of Hafnarfjörður and other interested parties were encouraged to put on their big festive glasses and send in a tip about the houses, businesses and streets in Hafnarfjörður that stand out for their Christmas decorations this year. The Culture and Tourism Committee announced the winners, and residents received the award at Thorsplani on Sunday, 15 December.

Everyone received a beautiful Christmas decoration from the flower shop, Burknar.

 

Hafnarfjörður Cemeteries

Hafnarfjörður Cemeteries received special recognition for creating a warm and festive atmosphere during Advent. Their service, which allows relatives to light up the paths of deceased loved ones, has been available since 1956 and is unique nationwide.

The lights in the churchyard not only illuminate the grounds but also delight and warm the hearts of everyone driving through the town. The same family has carried out this service for decades, creating a precious legacy and a unique Christmas beauty.

Sævangur 15

Colourful strings of lights adorn this house, delighting those who drive along Hjallabraut. Every year, the owners add more lights, showing great dedication and passion for creating beautiful Christmas decorations.

Norðurvangur 27, 29, 31, 40 and Heiðvangur 28

These five houses in the North Town received an award for their elegant and cohesive streetscape. Stylish Christmas lights adorn each property, creating a unique overall picture that is a delight to the eye and inspires admiration from passers-by. This is an excellent example of neighbourly cooperation and community spirit.

Breidvangur 15-37

The residents of Breiðvang have shown fantastic solidarity with beautiful and coordinated Christmas decorations, where blue, green, and yellow lights create a unique atmosphere. The street is a true Christmas gem, where everyone contributes to creating a cosy and welcoming atmosphere. Breiðvangur is a splendid example of what a neighbourhood can achieve when everyone gets involved.

Hrauntunga 1

Stylish and beautiful Christmas lights adorn this house at the end of Hraunbrún and Hrauntunga. Every year, new lights are added, making the surroundings warm and festive.

Fífuvellir 16

The house is adorned with cosy Christmas decorations in blue, green and yellow. Little Father Christmases fill the garden, creating a magical atmosphere that delights both children and adults.

Furuvellir 19

This house is a true Christmas wonderland and probably the most decorated house in Hafnarfjörður. The garden is adorned with magnificent lights and decorations – even the car in the driveway is decorated for Christmas, with Father Christmas sitting at the wheel!

Glitvellir 33

A beautiful and tasteful house that is a delight to look at. The Christmas lights put everyone in a festive mood and create a cosy atmosphere.

 

Fjóluhvammur 6

Creativity, a love of colour and playfulness come together in beautiful Christmas decorations that put you in a good Christmas mood and delight passers-by.
