The City of Hafnarfjörður today entered into an agreement with Raddir, an association for quality reading and public speaking, to collaborate on the running of the National Reading Competition in Iceland. The National Reading Competition will continue to be based in Hafnarfjörður, where the competition began 20 years ago.
Hafnarfjörður Municipality will assist Raddir with the running of the competition, as well as maintaining the website: Reading.Hafnarfjordur.is but representatives of Radda will handle the content uploads to the site. The contract is for one year. The agreement was signed by Fanney D. Halldórsdóttir, Director of Education and Leisure Services for the City of Hafnarfjörður, and Ingibjörg Einarsdóttir, Chair of Radda and formerly Office Manager of Education and Leisure Services. It is pleasing that Raddir and the City of Hafnarfjörður are continuing their formal collaboration on the largest development project in Icelandic primary schools, which began in Hafnarfjörður's primary schools in 1996 at the instigation of Ingibjörg. At the same time, a separate agreement was made with Ingibjorg to continue to manage the running of the Little and Big Reading Competition in Hafnarfjörður this school year, as she has done for the past 20 years.
