House full at residents' meeting about the Reykjanesbraut

The residents' meeting at the Bæjarbíó was packed tonight, where road safety on and around the Reykjanesbraut was discussed. Among those who spoke were Hrafnhildur R. Halldórsdóttir, a resident of Setberg, and Sindri Blær Gunnarsson, a student at Flensborg who was involved in a serious collision on the Reykjanesbraut. Also present were Lilja Guðríður Karlsdóttir, a transport engineer at Viaplan, Magnús Einarsson from the Road Administration, and Jón Gunnarsson, Minister of Transport and Local Government. .

 Attendees had many questions, as the motorway is a large structure that divides the town in half. A large number of residents use it to commute to and from work, and many parents have to contend with it when taking their children to leisure activities and sports. Sindri Blæður stated that young people in Hafnarfjörður were frustrated and avoided using the roundabouts on the route.

At the end of the meeting, resident Hrafnhildur Halldórsdóttir put forward a resolution to the attendees, which was passed with thunderous applause.

„A public meeting on transport issues in Hafnarfjörður calls on the government to ensure the continuation of improvements to the Reykjanesbraut in Hafnarfjörður. It is to be ensured that construction work on the junctions and roundabouts on the stretch from Kaplakriki to Lækjargata begins next year, and that the doubling of the Reykjanesbraut from Kaldárselsvegur to the flyover at Krísuvíkurvegur is also completed.“
