Book and Film Festival for the fourth time
The Children's Book and Film Festival in Hafnarfjörður is now being held for the fourth time, but at a new time in October. This year, most of the events are centred around the bestselling books by author Gunnar Helgason, which have been given a new lease of life on the big screen and in the theatre.
The children's book and film festival in Hafnarfjörður is now being held for the fourth time, but at a new time in October. This year, most of the events centre on the bestselling books by author Gunnar Helgason, which have been adapted for the big screen and the stage, but on 19 October, there will be a theatrical adaptation of the play Mamma Clicks! by Björk Jakobsdóttir, Hafnarfjörður's 2019 Artist in Residence. will have its premiere at the Gaflar Theatre.
A book and film festival will be opened at the Gaflar Theatre on Friday, 11th October at 9:30 a.m., where Year 4 pupils in Hafnarfjörður will get to watch the performance of Mamma klikk! Over the next few days, there will be events at the town's cultural institutions, a family workshop at Hafnarborg, and a varied programme at Hafnarfjörður Library. The film 'Hell in the Westman Islands' will also be shown at Bæjarbíó on Sunday, 13th October, making it the perfect opportunity for a triple feature. In the following teaching week, Gunnar Helgason will visit middle school pupils in all of Hafnarfjörður's primary schools to talk about and read from his books.
The Children's Book and Film Festival is intended to support the Hafnarfjörður literacy project, “Reading is the Game of Life'. The festival's purpose is to foster children's interest in reading and literacy in the broadest sense, and to spark their interest in immersing themselves in the fantasy worlds of books and films.
