Bonfire lit at the New Year's Eve bonfire at 8:30 p.m. on New Year's Eve.

A bonfire will be lit for the New Year's Eve bonfire at 8:30 p.m. on New Year's Eve. The bonfire will, as usual, be held at Ásvellir, now on the Haukar sports grounds on Völlunum, specifically in the lava field in front of the sports centre. The football club Haukar and the City of Hafnarfjörður are jointly organising the bonfire.

Passers-by are advised to keep a safe distance from the bonfire, dress appropriately for the weather, leave fireworks at home and fully enjoy the company of friends, family and other cheerful residents and visitors of the City of Hafnarfjörður. The Sports and Leisure Committee, the prevention officer, parent councils and parent-teacher associations in Hafnarfjörður, together with the police, encourage parents of children and teenagers in the town to make New Year's Eve a fun and family-friendly evening.

As usual, some traffic can be expected in Völlunum on New Year's Eve, and it is therefore recommended that people set off in good time to enjoy the bonfires and fireworks. Residents in Völlunum and the surrounding areas are also encouraged to walk this route if possible.
