The board of the Cancer Society of the Capital Area decided, to mark the 2018 merger of the Cancer Society of Reykjavík and the Cancer Society of Hafnarfjörður and its seventieth anniversary year, to visit the municipalities in its area. Hafnarfjörður was visited last week.

Last week, the board and management of the Cancer Society of the Capital Area visited Hafnarfjörður, where they met with the Mayor, Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir, and Geir Bjarnason, the Sports and Leisure Officer, Fanney D. Halldórsdóttir, Head of the Education and Public Health Department, Árdís Ármannsdóttir, Communications Manager, and Sunna Magnúsdóttir, Project Manager, who welcomed the group at the Bookless Bungalow, one of the historic houses of the Hafnarfjörður Folk Museum.

Good results are the product of good collaboration.

At the meeting, Geir Bjarnason reviewed the state of preventative measures in the municipality and the good results achieved through the implementation of a variety of projects. Hafnarfjörður has worked very purposefully on public health matters in the municipality and has been a model for others.a. in tobacco prevention in the town's primary schools for a number of years. The Executive Director of the Cancer Society of the Capital Region, Guðlaug B. Guðjónsdóttir, presented the society's activities at the meeting and reviewed its main projects, campaigns and their success. There has been extensive and excellent cooperation between the Cancer Society and the City of Hafnarfjörður, and it is clear that the good results are, in part, the product of this powerful and effective collaboration.
