On Wednesday, 24th June, the play schemes in Hafnarfjörður are holding the annual angling competition at Flensborg Pier. The competition is open to all children aged six to twelve.
For over 20 years, the Municipality of Hafnarfjörður has organised this pike fishing competition, and last year over 300 children took part, catching nearly 200 fish.
The winner caught four fish, and the heaviest fish of the competition weighed around 600g. Various sea creatures were caught on the line, such as cod, whiting, codling, rockling and crabs.
Competitors will be provided with fishing tackle at the venue, where bait and instructions will also be available from the staff.
Prizes will be awarded for the biggest fish, for the angler who catches the most fish, and for the angler who catches a so-called 'stranger fish'. The fishing school that catches the most fish will also be awarded a prize. Rapala is providing generous prizes.
The instructors of the sports and games courses will provide robust supervision, and the Þytur Sailing Club will have a rescue boat in the area.
The competition starts at around 13:30 and finishes at around 15:00.
All children aged six to twelve are welcome and encouraged to take part.
