The Family and Children's Services Department of Hafnarfjörður is seeking to recruit staff for cover in specialist support services.

This is a fixed-term appointment from spring until November 2026. It is desirable that the employee can start as soon as possible.

An employee assists service users with significant and complex service needs, working in accordance with the City of Hafnarfjörður's policy on homelessness and provides individualised services that are organised with the individual's needs in mind.A harm reduction philosophy and a recovery-oriented approach are adopted. Skarðshlíðar Nursery School is looking to hire a nursery teacher for a 100% position. 

Skarðshlíðarleikskóli is a new nursery school with four playgroups, which meets modern standards for nursery education. It is located at Hádegisskarði 1, just a 4-minute drive from the Reykjanesbraut via Kaldárselsveg.

The school's philosophical foundation is based on a Professional Learning Community, where everyone learns together and the emphasis is on active participation in developing a strong school. We emphasise democracy, initiative and a joy for life in our daily interactions, and aim to enhance the children's skills and abilities through play. We aim to create a positive working environment where everyone can enjoy themselves and contribute. The school's policy is based on Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences and Responsive Classroom.

We are looking for a driven and dynamic home economics teacher to join us in our ambitious school programme.

This summer, individuals and groups at aged 18-25 (born 2001-2008) to come up with ideas for creative projects in Hafnarfjörður. Individuals and groups will have the opportunity to work over the summer on creative projects and present them to residents and visitors during the summer. Creative Summer Jobs, run as part of the Hafnarfjörður Work School and the Innovation Centre, is intended as a springboard for young artists to develop their art, practise working independently and showcase their creations.  

Applicants must be aged between 18 and 25. When selecting projects, consideration will be given to, among other things the feasibility and originality of the project, the budget, the diversity of projects, the gender balance of applicants and the quality of the applications. An agreement on the project's arrangements will be made with the applicants who are selected. Help with writing the application can be obtained from the staff of the Innovation Centre via email. nyskopunarsetur@hafnarfjordur.is.  

 The main tasks and responsibilities are to:

  • Work according to one's own implementation and work plan
  • Staff are active on social media and promoting the project.

  • Appear at organised events run by the City of Hafnarfjörður, such as the 17th of June and others.

The total number of hours is 208, and the project is expected to be completed in 7 weeks during June and July.  

Please note that this refers only to salaries and not to other funding for the project. Projects are responsible for all incidental production costs themselves.

The salary is in accordance with the collective agreement between the Association of Icelandic Local Authorities and the Hlíf trade union.

An agreement on the project's arrangement will be made with the selected applicants. The supervisor of the Hafnarfjörður Work Club, the director of the Innovation Centre, and staff members of the Innovation Centre will form a selection committee that will report its findings by 17 April 2026..

Skarðshlíðarskóli is seeking a dynamic and energetic music teacher. to join us in our ambitious school work in a 70% post. The appointment is from 1 August 2026.

At Skarðshlíðarskóli, we have enthusiastic and fun-loving pupils, a dedicated staff, and a strong parent body. We emphasise a good working atmosphere, team teaching, varied teaching methods, SMT school skills, and ensuring all pupils achieve good results in play and work. Mílan is an integral part of the school's work, which involves pupils and staff going outside daily to walk, jog or run for 15 minutes.

The school's values are cooperation, friendship and perseverance.

The implementation of UDL (Universal Design for Learning) began in the autumn of 2020. UDL provides students with the opportunity to learn in different ways and to demonstrate their skills in different ways. Students are active and have an influence on their own learning.

Skarðshlíðarskóli is a comprehensive school for pupils in Years 1 to 10. The school currently has around 530 pupils. The school building is impressive and the school is well-equipped, with a sports hall, a branch of the Hafnarfjörður Music School, and a four-department nursery school in a connected building. This autumn, a major collaborative project will begin between the nursery, primary and music schools.

Key responsibilities and duties:

  • Music education in primary school 
  • Music education in the nursery school in the same building
  • Preschool in the same building
  • Manage the collaborative projects of the nursery, primary and music school.
  • Participate in the development of a new school community in collaboration with the management.
  • Other tasks as per the job description and as assigned by a superior.

Competency requirements:

  • Teaching licence (a licence must accompany the application)
  • A solid knowledge of pedagogy in music education
  • Music education that is useful in the workplace
  • Proficiency in a variety of teaching methods, curriculum adaptation and integration.
  • Interest in working with children and young people
  • Agility in communication, flexibility and cooperativeness
  • Initiative and autonomy in work methods
  • Positivity and an interest in working in a creative and ambitious environment
  • Punctuality and conscientiousness
