Christmas decorations

News

Now that the first snow has fallen, work on the Christmas decorations in the town has begun.

It's a good time to start putting up the Christmas decorations in the town when the first snow falls.

All the fir trees being felled this year are coming from residents' back gardens, which is a win-win situation: residents need to get rid of large fir trees, and the City of Hafnarfjörður needs trees that we can use as Christmas trees.  This is at no cost to the residents, and the town does not have to buy trees to decorate.

The fir trees we received this year came from the grounds of the following houses:
Birkibergi 4, Hnotubergi 15, Miðvangi 23, Þrúðvangi 5, Öldugata 22 and Ölduslóð 45, and we thank these residents of the town for the trees and for their good cooperation in this project. A gift tree from the twin town of Cuxhaven, Germany, will also be planted at Flensburg Harbour.

Work on the Christmas decorations began this week, and the lights in the town will be switched on from 29 November to 1 December. On the latter day, there will be a formal opening of the Christmas Village on Thorsplan, which will be open every Saturday and Sunday until Christmas from 12 noon to 5 p.m.
