„I couldn't be happier with the development of the Christmas Village. We've had more weekends and we're open for longer during the day. People are staying in the Christmas Village for longer as the selection has increased,“ says Sunna Magnúsdóttir, project manager for the Christmas Village, which is now 22 years old. The article appeared in the Christmas issue of the City of Hafnarfjörður's magazine.

„I feel that the people of Hafnarfjörður are proud of the Christmas Town and the Christmas Village at Thorsplani,“ says Sunna, and how a visit to the village has become a tradition in the lives of the vast majority of Hafnarfjörður families, as many of the town's nursery school children decorate the trees on Thorsplan with their crafts.

„Hundreds of children from Hafnarfjörður have taken part in the preparations here. They all have a part in this Christmas tradition and our village,“ she says.

Nearly fifty shops and service businesses are open in the Christmas Village in the run-up to Christmas, offering everything from children's goods, handicrafts and Christmas decorations to food, sweets and natural products. „You can get all your shopping done in the Christmas Village and the surrounding shops. You can come here for the Christmas smells and atmosphere, grab a bite to eat and enjoy yourself,“ says this mother of three, who is busy in the run-up to Christmas.

„Yes, my children can find me in the Christmas Village in red. It's their Christmas tradition to hear me planning and putting together the Christmas in the Hafnarfjörður Christmas Village, all the way from August.“

Sisters, partners, popcorn and a wheel of fortune

Every day is unique in the glasshouses at Thorsplan while the Christmas Village is open.

Sometimes there are familiar shops, such as Edda's Yarn Shop with a pop-up market, as well as Kjötkompaní. On other days, there are Icelandic handmade goods and products that are a pleasure to browse. The tents will also have their own fire pits.

Then, Sisters and partners will settle into one of the glasshouses, while the shop is renowned for its wonderful small wares and is the place to get your Christmas dress.

Yes, the glasshouses will be an adventure in themselves in the Christmas Village. Please do pop in while you enjoy the company in the heart of Hafnarfjörður.
