The Mayor's Christmas Reflection

News

At this time of year, strong emotions stir in the heart. Anticipation for what is to come, gratitude for the past, and love for family and friends. Another year is about to say goodbye. It has added a certain experience, maturity and insight into the bank of life, of what life and existence have to offer.

Reconciliation, gratitude and anticipation

At this time of year, strong emotions stir in the heart. Anticipation for what is to come, gratitude for the past, and love for family and friends. Another year is drawing to a close. It has added a certain experience, maturity and insight into the bank of life about what life and existence have to offer. Some years are more successful and joyful than others, while others are sometimes coloured by illness, the loss of a loved one, or other setbacks which can often be difficult to overcome. We must nurture all these emotions and find ways to relearn the art of living and enjoying life anew.

The most adventurous Advent

Advent is, in many ways, a time when the whole spectrum of life is reflected in the surroundings and in the people. While Advent is a season of light and peace, joy and anticipation, it could be quite dark and cold were it not for the Christmas lights, the music, the fun and games, and all the light and hope that resides in everyone's heart. The Christmas season brings families and friends together and is a true celebration of traditions and togetherness. When all is said and done, it is the time spent together and enjoying the present moment that matters most. It is vital for everyone to pause, take a breath, enjoy the tasks at hand, and find energy both within themselves and in the company of others. All of this is so beautifully reflected in the community of Hafnarfjörður. The residents who make up our town are unique, collaboration is strong, and the sense of solidarity is remarkable.

Advent with the people of Hafnarfjörður and friends of the town has been like an adventure; a cosy Christmas atmosphere has formed throughout the town, and the social life in the town centre is ever more colourful. Large groups seeking to enjoy art and culture, a vibrant music scene, the friendly atmosphere of the Christmas Village and delicious dishes in restaurants and cafés with family and friends, with the aim of creating memories of a warm and wonderful time together, free from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

To my colleagues at Hafnarfjörður Municipality, I extend my heartfelt and warmest festive greetings, with sincere gratitude for our collaboration in the year that is drawing to a close. To the people of Hafnarfjörður and friends of the city, I send my very best wishes for a wonderful and joyous Christmas, and a prosperous New Year.
